Reading with Kellogg's

We joined with Schoolkit to be a part of the Kellogg's Books for Active Minds Programme. If you shop at New World in Hillcrest, please add your receipt into the display box with our school name on. Kellogg's will give us free books for our school library.
This is us listening to Lennie in the shade on Putikitiki.
We had fun practising making a face like the character grumpy 'Old McDonald'.

Team Work again!

We are now experts at team work. We noticed a problem with our Totara Sandpit. A lot of the sand was on the ground around the outside.
So... we talked to Dugan and borrowed some spades. We worked with a buddy and got that sand back into the sandpit.

Phew! That was hard work!

Co-operative Games with Erin

We worked together in teams.
Erin taught us some team games.
Then we had a boys and girls challenge. Could we all fit on the 'blue island'.
Problem? The island kept getting smaller and smaller ...

What did we learn?
Team Work is ...
  • helping each other to stay together on the blue mat. Holding on to each other.
  • work together with a plan
  • making room for each other

Working Together as a Team

Mrs McKenzie gave us 25 paper cups for each group.

The challenge: who can build the tallest tower?

We talked in our groups and came up with our plans.

What did we find out?
Team work is ...
  • not always easy
  • you have to have a team agreement before you start
  • working together
  • listen to each other
  • experiment and try out new ideas
  • try each others plans to find which one works the best
  • share together
  • be respectful of each other
Together we discussed what a good learner looks, sounds and thinks like at Hamilton East School.
Room 16’s Class Treaty
1.           Listen and do as we are asked the first time.
2.          Be a focused learner. Manage ourselves and make good choices.
3.          Keep trying, think ‘confident’, think ‘positive’.
4.          Be kind and friendly.
5.          Think about our learning goals.
6.          Listen to each other and take turns.
7.          Problem solve as a team, respect people and include each other.
8.          Always do quality work and be proud of our learning.
9.          Look after our classroom, our equipment and our school environment.
