We had a wonderful day on Friday at the Royal A&P Farm Show.

We had to follow a farm trail and collect stamps at each animal enclosure.

Spring Changes

How can we be an agent of change?

 

Weetbix Slice Recipe

Ingredients

100g butter

1 cup sugar

2 tablespoons golden syrup

1 egg, lightly beaten

1 cup flour

1 cup desiccated coconut

1 cup sultanas or raisins

5 weetbix, crushed

1 teaspoon baking powder

1. Preheat oven to 180°C.  Grease a shallow 28cm x 18 cm shallow backing tin.

2. Place butter, sugar and golden syrup in a saucepan.  Stir over a low heat until butter has melted and sugar has dissolved.

3. Add egg and remaining ingredients; mix until well combined. 

4. Press into prepared tin.  Bake for 20 minutes.  Cool before cutting into squares.

I skipped onto the stage and one of the children turned into a monster.  All of the people were scared.  I was scared too.  I ran away and all of the other people ran too. The monster chased after us.  Then the monster turned back into a human.  Phew!

When I was going to walk off the stage Shahil fell over and down the steps.  He laughed at himself, then everybody fell down.  Oops!

I danced on the stage with my costume.  I came down the steps and Tui started to drum and everyone started to make some NOISE!  BANG... I heard everyone clapping.  Then Tui banged the drum very hard and the drum bounced up and flew outside the hall!  He ran after the drum!

When the Operetta was on  I walked into the hall.  I saw Mohamed dancing and he fell off the stage.  Something happened down there.  There was a light and then he flew up and up and then...  everyone started to fly!    It was so awesome!

Cross Country Race Day

What an amazing day!  

It stopped raining just for our Cross Country Race.

Saving Our Money

We had a visit from Brodie who works for ASB bank.

He talked to us about money and banks.

We learnt about Eftpos cards and how you can only spend the money you have in the bank.

 Brodie talked to us about needs and wants.

Needs are - 

water, food and shelter.  Things you have to have.

Wants are -  

things we want but have to wait for.

We have to save our money for our wants!

Changes-What is Change?

We investigated what makes things change.  

We experimented with water and food. 

We used solids, liquids and gases.

Read what we discovered
What is Melting ? 
- "a solid turns into a liquid when you heat it up" said Guru

What is Evaporation? 
- "a liquid turns into a gas when you heat it up" said Scania and Mohamed

What is Freezing? 
- "a liquid turns into a solid when you make it very cold" said Nivriti and Lathaniel

What is Condensation? 
- "a gas turns into a liquid when you make it very cold" said Emma

We also had a Maths problem.  

We made 3 bowls of popcorn and we had 21 children.

How many children would have to share each bowl?

We used equal sharing to find a solution.
