For the last three years Mother Duck has come to school to make her nest and lay her eggs.
We have learnt not to feed her because Father Duck visits every night to bring her food.
We know to be very quiet and not get too close so we don't frighten her.
YESTERDAY something exciting happened!
Look closely....
and closer...
and closer...
Can you see the tiny ducklings?
What a surprise!
We counted 7 ducklings.
We like the photos of the ducklings you have taken. We thought the ducklings were so lovely. Where do you think think they are today?

Hi Room 16
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to have a duck come to school to make her nest. We didn't know that the drake brought food for the duck while she was sitting on the eggs. We hope you will post some more pictures of the ducklings when they come out of the nest so that we can watch them grow. Do you know when the ducklings will go walking with their mum?

Dear Mrs Nelson and Room 3
ReplyDeleteSad news Room 3. Mother Duck has taken her baby ducklings to the river already. She snuck them away during the night. We were sad to see the empty nest this morning.

Mother Duck had eight babies and she went down to the Waikato River. I think she will be back next year.
